Based upon the BeoVision 6-22 the BeoVision 6-26 widescreen LCD colour TV is a little larger than its predecessor although fitted with better-quality speakers. The larger version had additional tweeters. Visually, although the external socket set looked similar to that on the BeoVision 6-22 the internal electronics were all-new as the LCD monitor for this particular TV was sourced from Sharp of Japan rather than from Samsung of South Korea.
Both Beovision 6-22 and BeoVision 6-26 replaced the MX range of CRTs although the price differential between the two technologies was about double.
The Beo4 (third variant) remote control was supplied with this model.
BeoCenter 6-26, with its in-built CD and radio replaced the BeoVision 6-26 at the end of 2005.
Bang & Olufsen has added a new 26in widescreen LCD TV to its range and, as you’d expect, the product has typically sleek styling. The £3250 BeoVision 6-26 has two-way active stereo loudspeakers, positioned full-length below the screen, and the screen is framed in brushed aluminium, with the curved rear of the cabinet coated in a resilient, black soft-touch lacquer. When used with BeoLab loudspeakers as part of a home cinema system, the television’s onboard speakers function as a powerful mono centre. The set can also be used with an optional digital surround sound module.
A digital interface allows it to be used as a computer monitor.
The screen is only 18cm deep, and a range of mounting options are available, from conventional wall mounts to one of B&O’s attention-grabbing motorised stands, with a swivel controlled from the Beo4 remote control, while a built-in manual tilt mechanism means the 6-26 can be placed at the height that suits best.
When the TV is switched on it automatically adjusts contrast levels, brilliance and colour to match the current light conditions and will carry on doing so until is switched off again. An anti-reflection coating reduces the effect of ambient light on the picture.
