BeoPlayer was a free piece of downloadable software which bridged the gap between a computer and a BeoVision television. In using BeoPlayer and BeoMedia 1 a user could access their personal music files, Internet radio, family photos and so on, on a BeoVision TV. The software allowed for a user interface which both looked good and was easy to operate using a remote control. If using BeoPort, BeoPlayer was the software for BeoLink control and media organised on a computer. It was also free to users with neither BeoMedia 1 or BeoPort - who just wished to use it for playback of MP3 recordings on a home computer.  It was available by visiting the Beoplayer Web site.

The software also allowed copying, or ‘ripping’ of compact discs to a personal computer or to BeoMedia 1 - and by connecting through the Internet to the Internet Music Database it downloaded information and full track details such as artist, titles, genre and so on straight to the music track.

BeoSound 6 or Serenata not only played the music, but could also display cover art, transferred across with BeoPlayer. This way one could browse through the covers of a music collection and display the cover art while listening to personal music tracks.

By using BeoSound 2, BeoSound 3 or BeoSound 4, BeoPlayer was also a convenient way to manage the contents of  memory cards when it could be used to create individual playlists if the user did not wish to listen to music one CD at a time when it transferred music files quickly and securely.
