And we at BeoPhile.com thought that we were just getting older (and showing it!), with our general dislike of modern-day music being representative of the fact that ‘they don’t make ‘em like they used to!’

But that’s not necessarily that case, it seems, with the Daily Mail claiming that songs nowadays really DO sound the same. The newspaper’s article says that” Modern pop is louder, less varied, and uses less [sic] chords than classic albums of 50s and 60s”.

So it’s good to know that we aren’t all just going through middle-life crises with modern recordings giving us less choice, fewer experimentations with different types of music, but making them just that little bit LOUDER!

The article goes on to say that there is less variety in chords or melodies in songs mastered nowadays in an analysis made of half a million pop songs dating from 1955 to 2010 and that ‘Songs in (the) fifties and sixties had much more variation’ they claim.

So, we can all rest easy that we aren’t all turning senile. Well, not just yet anyway!
