Just announced by Bang & Olufsen is the high-end Sound System for BMW’s 6 Series Coupé. Giving almost near-perfect 3D sensation and maximum authenticity, the patented acoustic lens technology automatically adapts volume and sound within the confines of the car. Sixteen active speakers with a total of 1.200 watts produce music in brilliant quality and, just as in an orchestra, treble, mid-range & bass tones assume their exact position to create musical enjoyment fit for a concert hall.

An automatically retracting centre speaker (mounted in the dash) houses a mid-range driver and an acoustic lens which automatically rises when the system is powered up. It is the acoustic lens which guarantees brilliant surround-sound for driver and passengers alike and distributes the sound to provide constant audio quality in every part of the vehicle. Two acoustic options may be selected: Studio mode creates a clear sound, while the Expanded mode gives a wider acoustical space, thus creating a surround-sound experience second to none.

The system comprises 16 active speakers (made up of seven tweeters, seven mid-range and two sub-woofers). The two sub-woofers are positioned under the front seats and mounted directly to the body of the car. This BMW-patented design eliminates vibration to produce an even cleaner sound. In use a digital signal is made from the head unit and converted to an analogue signal within each speaker’s separate amplifier. This reduces the opportunity for the deterioration of sound. Signal processing includes Dirac Dimensions technology to vary the sound stage with a limited number of speakers.

The artistically elegant styling matches the high level of sound quality: speaker trims appear to hover thanks to the floating design. Anodised aluminium speaker trims with their precise perforation pattern are characteristic of the Bang & Olufsen design. Every viewing angle reveals lines in perfect harmony with the design concept of the Coupé itself.
